Brits continue to take on more debt
Fri, 31 Jul 2009
Britons are still taking on more and more debt despite the obvious signs of a recession, it has been revealed by a comparison website .
The amount of debt taken on this year has been higher than ever, with twenty-seven per cent of adults having been found to have placed themselves under a heavier burden. Of the 27 per cent cent of people who have increased their debt, 8 per cent of these have said that they have increased their debt amount by "a lot".
The research found that the average debt now stands at £7,000 for the average Briton. Those aged over 60 were revealed to be the best at reducing their debt, while the under-30's struggled the most to keep it under control.
Tim Moss from a price comparison website, said: "Anyone starting to worry about their financial situation shouldn't bury their head in the quick sand of debt, problems are easier to tackle when addressed early."
