Debt campaign for young people launched
Mon, 15 Jun 2009
Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has announced a new campaign which aims to show young people the realities of getting into debt .
Through short films focusing on the lives of normal under-25s who have experienced debt problems, the organisation will highlight the services it provides for young people who have financial problems.
One subject of the films is Scooby, who withdrew £10 from his current account which was in credit by only £9, resulting in £600 of interest when he neglected to stay in the black.
He said: "I knew I needed to get help and thought 'I've got nothing to lose' so I went down to my local CAB . Within four months they'd helped me clear my debts, it really was like a weight lifted off my shoulders."
Recent research by Kensington Financial Management Consultants found that 25 per cent of British people have fallen into debt due to shopping.
