Man With GBP50,000 Debt Changed Sex To Flee Debt Collectors

A man from the West Midlands changed genders in a desperate bid to keep debt collectors from tracking him down, according to a newspaper report.
The Telegraph revealed that the man, who is thought to have debts of around £50,000, went to the extreme length of having a sex change to switch identities completely.
The Wolverhampton mans case was revealed to actress Sarah Thom though staff at the Wolverhampton Credit Union, which provides financial advice and loans to members.
Ms Thom said she met up with workers at the union to find out about extreme debt cases as part of research for her role in an upcoming play called Forever in Your Debt .
According to the staff, the gender-changing man, who cannot be named, is believed to be around £50,000 in debt after falling behind on his mortgage payments and credit card bills.
The man is thought to have gone ahead with the sex change operation, but is now believed to have started repaying his creditors in an effort to clear his huge debts .
Ms Thom said other debt cases revealed by union staff included the owner of a 99p store in Wolverhampton who was forced to close down after customers demanded 1p change, and a man who became a debt collector just so he could hassle his own family for repayments.
