A direct debit may help with those with credit card debt

Brits concerned about debt problems through using a credit card are advised to set up a direct debit to ensure they do not make late payments on their bills, advises Michelle Whiteman, a spokesperson for the UK Cards Association, which is the trade association for the UK card industry.
She said: "Setting up a direct debit for at least the minimum repayment is a sensible idea as it helps you to avoid any late payment fees. In this way, Brits can ensure that their credit card debt does not increase as they will not be faced with additional charges."
Ms Whiteman also suggests that consumers repay their balance in full each month in order to take full advantage of the benefits associated with credit cards, without paying much interest.
According to Financial Fraud Action UK, credit card fraud, which can cause debt problems, has decreased but there are still ways in which consumers can prevent this from happening to them, such as keeping a PIN secret and not writing it down and shielding a PIN from other people when withdrawing cash .
