Brits Seeking Late Night Debt Advice

Thu, 31 Mar 2011

Thousands of debtors across the UK have been seeking help with their finances in the middle of the night, new research has revealed.

Figures released by national debt advice charity Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) show that 3.65 per cent of those who used its free online counselling service, CCCS Debt Remedy, last year did so between midnight and 7amover the course of 2010.

This time last year, the peak time for late night debt counselling was between midnight and 1am with 15,066 using CCCS Debt Remedy at this time.

The hour between 4am and 5am saw the fewest number of people seeking debt help, but even then there were still some 3,500 people accessing the online service during this hour.

Commenting on the statistics, Paula Searle, Head of E-Services at CCCS, suggested that people's debt problems were affecting their sleep.

She stated: "Dealing with unmanageable debt is incredibly stressful, so it is not surprising that so many are kept awake worrying about their debts ."

"I am glad that CCCS Debt Remedy is there to provide the advice they need, whatever the time of day or night they need it."

The CCCS’s Debt Remedy counselling service is available 24/7 at cccs.co.uk.
